9 October 1941 Hitler remarks on strengthening the Channel Islands

[Scan 1118.jpg] Führer headquarters, 9 October 1941. Processing reference a/41, top secret command matter [number not completed]. To Chief of the Armed Forces Operations Staff, General of Artillery Jodl, Führer headquarters. Subject: Channel Islands. [Handwritten: handed to Colonel Schmundt; reading partly uncertain.]

In addition to my notes of 8 October, the Führer remarked yesterday [a word struck out]: 1) The infantry defensive strength is to be increased. 2) The artillery defensive forces are to be strengthened. 3) The intervention force of the islands must be first-class in composition. Assault guns, heavily armoured tanks and 5 cm antitank guns are to be allocated as soon as possible. 4) Ammunition provision must meet the consumption rates of a prolonged major engagement. 5) Air defence must be equipped for at least fourteen days of defensive fighting. 6) Extensive use is to be made of minefields.
