9 June 1943 Sark mines identified and fog delays departure
9 June. Initially ran close east of Herz on 33 degrees to cut a mine near first contacts during twilight and establish type. Two mines cut; M 483 with flotilla mining officer approached intending tow if possible, abandoned after identifying Mark I. Next strip course 213 degrees, twice 1.9 nautical miles east of Herz; westernmost boat cut mine 1.6 nautical miles east. Two adjacent passes east and west clear. Since previously cut mines drifted northeast into search strips, moved west. Two clear passes two nautical miles west of Herz, one mine cut about one nautical mile west. Poor visibility made navigation very difficult. Gear recovered at 330 at 0255, St Peter Port secured 0416; SW force three, sea state two, fog. Ordered departure 2130 cancelled for fog; radioed intention to sail St Malo morning 10 June if weather improved.
