9 June 1942 Inspection programme for Guernsey and Jersey

Editorial note: Programme for 8–9 June; an itinerary records intended visits and is not proof that every planned stop occurred.

On Guernsey the programme included a live-fire company attack at Icart Point with tanks of Panzer Battalion 213, work at Batterie Steinbruch, the Saumarez strongpoint, 21 cm Mortar Battery 464, mining at La Colombelle, Cornet Castle and Saint Peter Port harbour defence, Fort Doyle, and a reinforced-company attack on Fort Marchant. Supply and ammunition depots were to be inspected if time permitted.

The Jersey inspection on 9 June began with airfield protection by the island’s tanks, work on Machine-Gun Battalion 16’s command post, Army Coastal Battery 468 with 21 cm mortars, permanent rear defences in Saint Ouen’s Bay and 1st Heavy Flak Battery 152, Army Coastal Battery 470 with 22 cm guns, the Saint Aubin tunnel system and infantry works, and supply and Organisation Todt depots. The afternoon covered Saint Helier harbour from South Hill, the defence of the Royal Bay and Saint Catherine’s Bay from Victoria Tower, an ammunition depot and a measuring or observation station.
