9 August 1944 Part 4

Summary

US Navy — Retrospective account of a US boat ramming another craft and possible survivors.

Location Details

Jersey; La Corbière; St Helier

Diary Entry

9 August 1944 US Navy later interrogation account of a boat lost off Jersey

Editorial note: Placed by the reported event date. The boat is unnamed and the interrogation date is unknown; identification with PT 509 is not established here. This is evidence concerning a possible parallel account, not an additional confirmed loss.

The same excerpt reports that interrogation of personnel later produced an account of an unnamed US boat ramming a converted fishing craft at 0900 on 9 August, one mile offshore in a small bay east of La Corbière. It describes Americans boarding with small arms, returning to their own boat and continuing the action before it sank. One, possibly two, survivors were reportedly landed at St Helier. The excerpt does not identify the US boat by number, and the interrogation date is not stated. [H page 26]
