Subject Food reserves for coastal defence
On the basis of an order issued by Commander-in-Chief West/Chief Quartermaster West concerning the distribution of the 56-day coastal-defence food reserve among fortresses, strongpoint groups, other strongpoints and resistance nests, the following is ordered:
1. The prescribed reserves of human food and horse fodder for coastal defence — human food, hard fodder and rough fodder, each for 56 days — must be available for all units permanently deployed in a coastal-defence sector.
Other troops are to continue to hold only ten days’ supplies. Army High Command/General Quartermaster has defined “other troops” as formations and units not employed in coastal defence or on the Channel Islands, for example higher-command reserves and divisions being newly formed. For the Channel Islands, reserves remain at 90 daily allowances for the total ration strength.
2. The initial food allocation under Army Regulation 86, paragraph 29a, counts towards the coastal-defence reserve, but not towards the ten-day reserve for other troops.
3. Food scale I is to be used as the basis for all coastal-defence stockpiling and for the initial allocation.
4. With immediate effect, food and horse-fodder reserves for coastal defence are to be established as follows: a. fortresses, 56 daily allowances; b. strongpoint groups, 28; c. strongpoints, 14; d. resistance nests, 7.
The remainder needed to bring stocks up to 56 days — except in fortresses, which must hold the full 56 days within their own areas — is to be placed in dispersed locations convenient for resupply at the divisional supply offices of coastal-defence divisions and the Army supply depots, as follows: [Continues beyond the cited page.]
