8 May 1944 Normandy radar reports concerning the Channel Islands
Normandy radar reporting station — 1944-05-08
Night 8/9 May. Wind SSW1, visibility 8 nautical miles, sea 1. Enemy transmissions received: FuMO214 Arromanches 2240–0630 in sector 30°–45°; FuMO51 La Pernelle 0104–0405 in sector 330° through 0° to 110°; FuMO214 Jobourg 0323–0337 in sector 50°–65°. Interference with FuMO2 and 51 by enemy jammer in BF3525 established by interception service. For FuMO214 in Normandy area this could not be established.
Mammut Jobourg tracked convoy callsign Cloak 1010–1050 from upper-right BF3147 to upper-left [square unspecified]; convoy Review 0127–0645 from left-edge centre BF3148 to upper centre 3153. Air Force large search station Ammer, with radar 214, D58 and M16, detected several small sea targets 0022–0031 in right-edge centre BF3546. When directed onto them, FuMO214 Jobourg made two detections 0038–0040 near point 328 at 170 hectometres. Air Force large search station Goldfisch on Guernsey, directed onto them, made detections 0120–0152 at 360 hectometres in same sea area. Difficult to distinguish on all sets. Probably enemy fast boats. 0220 Alderney reports eight to ten engine noises, departing fast boats, in that sector.
FuMO214 Jobourg 0102–0152 at 190 hectometres: several small targets from centre BF3527 to lower-right 3524. 0144–0148 in upper-left 3528 new second group, lost after four minutes. Probably also enemy fast boats. FuMO2 Guernsey I0146 in BF2569 at 310 hectometres: target difficult to distinguish. Only one detection, probably false. Fifteen locating signals for navigational assistance and six enemy-target signals. Normandy interception network took bearings 2315–2355 on enemy radar emitter from upper centre BF3271 to left-edge centre 3249.
