Diary Entry
8 July 1944 Part 2 Weekly assessment of fighting and shipping losses around the islands
b. Naval situation
Enemy supplies continued to be brought in on the already known, marked sea routes Southampton–Barfleur and Dover–Fécamp–Le Havre.
Nothing is yet known about enemy use of Cherbourg harbour.
In the Channel Islands area and off the north coast of Brittany there was increasing enemy reconnaissance and combat activity, accompanied by rising losses of our own warships and merchant shipping tonnage.
Enemy control of all routes into and out of the Breton ports, together with the mining of sea routes, continued.
