Diary Entry
8 February 1945 Aborted commando raid on Granville
c) During the night of 6–7 February, a commando operation was undertaken from the Channel Islands against Granville to destroy the harbour and capture ships.
At the same time, S 112 laid mines in the northern approach to St Malo as a diversion.
The operation itself had to be abandoned because too much time was lost transferring between vessels following the failure of V 229.
The enemy apparently noticed nothing, although individual vessels approached to within 260 metres of the enemy-held coast.
A repeat attempt in similarly favourable conditions is planned in approximately four weeks.
