Diary Entry

7 September 1942 Casquets reinforcement begins and a naval signal book is missing

Date note: The report says half the guard arrived on 7 September and the other half was to follow on 8 September. It supplements the existing monthly account, rather than recording another raid.

7 September 1942. Captain von dem Knesebeck, LXXXIV Army Corps headquarters, reports at 21:40:

Following personal reconnaissance by the divisional commander, the 319th Infantry Division considers a garrison of 1 : 2 : 18 with five machine guns and one light mortar necessary. Half of this garrison has been taken to Les Casquets today and the other half will be taken there tomorrow.

Corps addition: the erection of wire obstacles on the rock has been ordered.

Addition for Intelligence Section: reconnaissance established that, in addition to weapons and food, a wireless signal book for the HS boats has disappeared.

Transmitted to the army group duty officer, First Lieutenant Grünecker [surname reading uncertain], at 21:47 on 7 September 1942. The addition for Intelligence Section was transmitted to that section’s duty officer, Sonderführer Haarer.

[The strength notation 1 : 2 : 18 is retained exactly; the source does not label its categories on this page.]
