7 November 1944 Guernsey Bailiff appeal to the Red Cross

Miscellaneous. Supply of Channel Islands civilians: Commander, Channel Islands, forwards a radio message from Guernsey’s Bailiff, the head of government, to the Red Cross, requesting onward transmission. Addressing the Secretary-General of the International Red Cross in Geneva, the Bailiff describes rapidly deteriorating conditions for the island population and requests immediate dispatch of a Red Cross representative. Message forwarded to Commander-in-Chief West with request for the fastest possible onward transmission, since arrangements for civilian supply substantially influence the garrison’s endurance.
