Weather: West to north-west, weak to moderate breeze; cloudy to fair; visibility 20–30 nautical miles; early coastal haze and isolated radiation fog; calm to slightly disturbed sea; medium-high, medium-length south-easterly swell.

0000: Secret teletype FS 5437 AI from Commander, Security Forces West, also addressed to V 207/09 through Harbour Commandant Guernsey, reports sighting a suspicious sailing vessel. By 3rd Security Division's radio order the boats are to stand at point 254 at daybreak on 6 September to seize it. 0330, Guernsey: V 207/09 sailed with Georgi for Alderney. 0100, Jersey: V 212/08 took La France and Sperber into convoy for Malo. 0600, Malo: V 212/08 arrived with convoy from Jersey–Guernsey. 0645, Alderney: V 207/09 arrived with Georgi, then continued east. [The first movement entries appear in this order in the diary.]

0815/36: V 207/09 receive 3rd Security Division's short radio message that the suspicious target is in grid square BF 3538. Since the boats do not know the restricted area, I arrange with the division for it to be lifted, which is done by short radio message 0849/38.

I assign V 702/10 and V 213 to (1), but weather still prevents departure. The following was sent to 3rd Security Division. Situation for 6 September: (1) V 207/09 Guernsey–Alderney with Georgi, then special task under the division's orders, later independently Cherbourg–Alderney for Georgi's night troop convoy of 6/7 September Alderney–Guernsey; (2) V 212/08 completing the night troop convoy of 5/6 September with Minotaure from Guernsey and La France and Sperber from Jersey to Malo, then readiness; (3) V 707/04/02/10/213 and M 4611/01 ready at Guernsey; no convoys because of the weather; (4) M 4604/05 minor repairs at Malo.
