Diary Entry
6 November 1944 Battery Annes and Alderney shipping observations
Naval situation. A. Channel: at 0800 Battery “Annes” on Alderney fires on one Wellington; hits observed. Evaluation of Alderney observation records shows that in strong northwesterly and northeasterly winds considerably more ships leave Cherbourg than enter. Example: on 14 October, wind northeast force 6–9, sea 3–5, twenty-two ships left and five entered. This indicates that a substantial proportion of ships visiting Cherbourg still lie on the roadsteads and must unload there.
