6 January 1943 Damaged S boats return to Saint Peter Port

0910 — Reports received so far on the S-boat operation against the westbound convoy show only that all boats of 5th Flotilla have now returned except S 116, which has been detached to Peter Port because of damage. The report does not establish whether the damage resulted from enemy action. The enemy repeatedly detected the boats. 2nd and 6th Flotillas broke off early because of weather. No reports yet from 4th Flotilla. Short reports must be awaited.

While forming up in a severe rain and hail squall, S 82 was rammed by S 116. S 82 leaking in compartments 3 and 4; S 116 leaking forward. Five boats secured at Cherbourg by 0830; S 116 entered Peter Port at 1100.
