Diary Entry

6 April 1942 St Malo convoy diary

Weather: around SW moderate to fresh breeze, visibility five nautical miles, slight to moderate sea. V 209 needs another one or two days to restore the feed-water heater completely. Today’s intended convoy is cancelled because Harbour Commandant Cherbourg reports tug Volkmar is needed elsewhere first. I assign V 204/11 to tonight’s St Malo–Jersey–Guernsey troop convoy. The Gaulois convoy ordered by 3rd Security Division G 530, FB A IV, will sail on 7 April with tug Stadu instead of Stier [tug spelling here; Stade in later entries].

Situation: V 206/08 ready Guernsey; V 207/09/04/10/11/13 ready St Malo, flotilla inspection; V 204/11 night troop convoy H 2 to Jersey and Holland to Guernsey [earlier readiness wording struck through]; V 1510/704 ready Cherbourg; V 212 boiler cleaning St Malo; V 205 dock Cherbourg. Escorted tonnage 2,846 GRT.

Intentions for 7 April: V 206/08 ready Guernsey; V 209/10 ready St Malo; V 207/13 daytime St Malo–Jersey–Guernsey–Cherbourg with Gaulois in tow and any Jersey convoy; V 204/11 complete troop convoy; V 1510/704 ready Cherbourg, possible night convoy to Alderney; V 212 boiler cleaning St Malo; V 205 dock Cherbourg.
