5 March 1943 S boats ground near Guernsey

1800 — The E-boat flotillas’ brief reports state: (a) 5th Flotilla failed to find the convoy. Twice briefly pursued by destroyers. No casualties or losses. S 85 and S 68 touched bottom near Guernsey on their return passage. Refloated on the rising tide; entered Saint Peter Port at 0900. The remaining four boats, after attempting assistance, entered Cherbourg at 1115.
