Diary Entry
5 July 1943 Channel Islands Sea Defence diary
Weather: wind 270°, 2 m/sec. At 10:40, Anti-Aircraft Brigade 11 reported the previous evening’s suspected mine-laying flight, recorded under 4 July.
Because details of the exact course of the enemy aircraft did not reach the Sea Commander, Channel Islands, until the afternoon of 5 July, ship movements for the coming night could be stopped only at the last moment. Anti-Aircraft Brigade 11 was immediately asked to communicate such reports, which were important to shipping, to the Sea Commander by the fastest route in future.
19:00. A new 60-cm searchlight was installed at Batterie Lothringen and was ready for illumination.
22:00. The Channel Islands route between points 5 and 6 was closed to shipping, as was Route Herz between points 330 and 332.
