Diary Entry
4 November 1944 Central direction of island air supply
Fortress supply: Commander-in-Chief West has finally agreed to my reorganisation proposals. Going beyond them, he intends to appoint my naval transport officer at Zellhausen as air-base commander and subordinate all three services’ personnel there to him. In addition to fortress supply duties he is to direct all other air-supply tasks performed from Zellhausen for Commander-in-Chief West. Naval High Command West is to issue the reorganisation order.
I welcome the decision to appoint Lieutenant Captain (Engineering) Brettschneider, whom I posted to Zellhausen, as air-base commander and entrust him with all supply duties there. [Continued.]
This ensures central direction by Naval High Command West of all questions relating to fortress air supply. The order for air supply of the Channel Islands and encircled sea fortresses is issued (see annex), effective 6 November at 1200. Operational details will still be discussed with the air transport commander.
