Diary Entry
31 May 1943 Ninety day generator fuel reserve required on the islands
Subject: delivery and reserve holdings of emergency generating sets for the Atlantic Wall.
Extract: procurement of 2,400 emergency generating sets is intended for lighting command posts, batteries and resistance nests. So far, 159 sets have been delivered. At an annual average operating time of 4½ hours a day, each set requires 3 litres of petrol daily. The reserve per generating set should therefore be: on the islands, 90 days, equal to 270 litres.
Editorial note: The equipment totals concern the wider Atlantic Wall programme in this letter, not the Channel Islands alone. The island reserve clause is general; Jersey is not individually named.
