Diary Entry

31 December 1943 Expanded bomber loss report off Guernsey

Editorial note: The earlier Roll 1603 summary and Roll 1604 intelligence account are already retained. This edition adds a separate 15:45 statement and rescue details; times, distances and attribution differ between accounts. It does not establish a reconciled number of distinct aircraft losses.

At 14:30 two four-engine enemy bombers crash two kilometres northwest of Guernsey. At 15:45 a Flying Fortress comes down off Guernsey’s north coast after flak fire. Eleven Canadians, four officers and seven sergeants, are recovered from a rubber boat.
