Diary Entry

31 December 1943 Subsequent assessment of battery construction

Undated subsequent assessment of the 16–31 December diary by the Commanding Admiral Channel Coast. Secret; signed Rieve; archival marking KA 35395 d. Placed at the end of the reviewed period, not represented as issued on 31 December.

Further construction work in the batteries must concentrate upon measures decisive to combat: completion of anti-aircraft positions, close-defence works, cover pits, splinter-protection trenches and camouflage. The employment of soldiers on fitting out canteens, accommodation bunkers and similar facilities must take second place.

If further civilian company workers are withdrawn, skilled men from the battery crews must take their place so that the important work can be completed by 1 March 1944.
