30 September 1942 St Malo fortnightly convoy summary

Escorted tonnage as printed: 16 September 3,300 GRT; 17 September 9,750; 18 September 8,350; 19 September 13,800; 20 September 5,300; 21 September dash; 22 September 1,000; 23 September 1,900. Printed subtotal: 44,400 GRT. 24 September 900; 25 September 2,900; 26 September 14,200; 27 September 5,200; 28 September 7,000; 29 September 5,300; 30 September 10,100. Printed subtotal: 45,600 GRT. Printed total: 90,000 GRT.

Source discrepancies: The first group’s printed daily figures sum to 43,400, not the printed 44,400. The second group sums to 45,600. Thus the listed daily figures total 89,000, while the printed subtotals and grand total give 90,000. For 26 September, the daily entry originally gives 15,700, the following day corrects it to 14,000, and this summary gives 14,200. All three figures are retained as documentary variants.

Convoys requested during 16–30 September: Columns are requested / carried out / carried out later / refused; a dash represents the source dash. 16 September: 2 / 1 / 1 / —. 17 September: 8 / 8 / — / —. 18 September: 4 / 4 / — / —. 19 September: 6 / 6 / — / —. 20 September: 4 / 4 / — / —. 21 September: 4 / — / 4 / —. 22 September: 1 / — / 1 / —. 23 September: 3 / 2 / — / 1. 24 September: 2 / 1 / 1 / —. 25 September: 3 / 2 / 1 / —. 26 September: 7 / 3 / 4 / —. 28 September: 5 / 5 / — / —. 29 September: 4 / 4 / — / —. 30 September: 4 / 4 / — / —.

Printed totals: 57 requested, 44 carried out, 12 carried out later, one refused. No row is printed for 27 September. The total’s date label reads “16–31–9.1942”, although the volume and closing date end on 30 September. The remarks column contains dashes and a small crossed/overtyped mark against 25 September, with no readable explanatory text. The totals match the printed rows; they have not been harmonised with the differently itemised daily requests.
