30 October 1943 Proposed incorporation and employment of foreign battalions

Top secret. Request permission to incorporate Georgian Infantry Battalions 795 and 797 and Eastern Battalion 649 into 709th Division under one regimental staff, whose provision is requested; and Georgian 823 and Eastern 643 as battalions directly under 319th Division. Proposed employment: 716th first concentrates Eastern 439 behind the front near Bayeux and Eastern 642 near Caen as divisional reserve; subsequently 439 enters Bessin subgroup and 642 Caen group, narrowing existing battalion sectors into three subgroups.

709th: Georgian 797 stays in Cotentin-West. Three companies of Georgian 795 remain divisional reserve around Nacqueville–Sainte-Croix-Hague; one company serves Jobourg subgroup at Vauville Bay. Eastern 649 divisional reserve near Le Mesnil-au-Val. 795/649 initially concentrate for training and are intended as security garrison for Cherbourg land-front construction.

319th: Georgian 823 on Guernsey and Eastern 643 on Jersey first concentrate behind the front. Coastal deployment follows once ready, releasing one German battalion per island as reserve.
