November 1942 undated day Third Security Division review of the St Malo diary
3rd Security Division, reference G 7393 A II. Secret command matter. To Commander Security West, two copies; for information, St Malo Convoy Control Office. Subject: St Malo Convoy Control Office war diary for 1–15 October. Previous correspondence: none. One enclosure. The enclosed war diary for 1–15 October 1942 is submitted in one copy.
Remarks on pages 3–4, 2 October at 0415: The collision has been reported separately under this office’s reference G 7299 of 11 November. Responsibility has not yet been finally determined.
On pages 6–7, 4 October, 0400–0810: Reference is made to the chief of the Convoy Control Office’s comments on the war diary of patrol pair 710/24 for 4 October and to 3rd Security Division’s remarks, G 7111 of 17 November 1942. In this case the situation required the pair commander to report by radio that he was two hours late. There were no tactical grounds for refraining from radio transmission.

On pages 19–20, 12 October at 1045: The investigation established that the firing resulted from incorrect conduct by Harbour Commandant Alderney. Reference is made to St Malo Convoy Control Office G 6768 of 10 December 1942 [date as printed; see source note above].
On page 21, 13 October at 0920 and 1340: The expected protected vessel for which a pair was to be stationed at Lézardrieux was Sperrbrecher 12.
Signed on behalf: Dr Diederichs. Filing endorsements identify enclosure 1 to Naval Group West secret reference 5403/42 and Commander Security West 14574 of 25 November 1942, and enclosure 1 to 1/Skl 867/43.
Source of Information
T-1022 Roll 2423, scans 0557–0558, two-page review. The heading reads November 1942 with the day left blank. A reference within the text reads 10 December 1942, inconsistent with this month heading and the forwarding chronology; both are retained. Placed at the end of November without assigning an unsupported day.
