Diary Entry

30 June 1944 Part 7 Battery Blücher supports Battle Group Keil

Since the early morning, after using up all its artillery and anti-tank ammunition, Battle Group Keil has been fighting a heroic battle against an enemy many times superior in numbers and equipment and advancing from the east, inflicting the heaviest losses on the enemy. Since 21:30, Army Coastal Battery Blücher on the island of Alderney has intervened in the fighting in cooperation with the battle group and has successfully engaged the leading enemy assault forces in the Jobourg and Herqueville area.

At about the same time, the Army receives the battle group’s last radio report: its command post is encircled and resistance probably cannot be maintained for much longer. Nevertheless, the battle group continues its self-sacrificing struggle with the forces available, in accordance with the orders given by the Führer.
