Diary Entry
3 October 1942 Winter relief cycle for island infantry
From 15 October to 15 April coastal battalions are to be relieved after two months by reserve battalions, giving each battalion two four-week training periods. Divisions regulate reserve-company changes within battalions. Horse-drawn artillery batteries and engineer companies require equivalent training time. Alderney’s infantry battalion is to rotate every three months for the reasons supplied by 319 Division.
Translation note: This proposed scheme was subsequently suspended for October; see the order of 7 October.
