3 May 1944 Part 4 Maikäfer exercise: island radio links

Seventh Army Headquarters, Army Signals Commander, No. 522/44 Secret, 3 May 1944. Radio exercise Maikäfer. Technical exercise period: 15 May at 04.00 until 16 May at 18.00.

319th Infantry Division, rearward and lateral: call-sign numbers 2 and 11; alternatives 3 and 17; base number 237; channel 2, alternative channel 4; frequency group D.

319th Division frequency-group rotation: 15 May, D 9; 16 May, D 1. Base number 237.

Coastal division–naval commander liaison: 319th Division call-sign number 12; Naval Commander Channel Islands number 20; base 239; frequency 458 kHz.

Call signs follow the key-number list for table Friedrich. Figures in brackets designate alternatives. When the main receiving frequency is heavily interfered with, use the alternative while keeping the main frequency manned. Continuous reception on alternative frequencies must be coordinated. Changes are ordered by the control station, which sends 20–50 meaningless letters for tuning after changing frequency.

The coastal division–naval commander liaison frequency is to be continuously manned by all corps and divisions. It is used for circuit traffic between the coastal divisions and naval commanders.

Supply messages may use command radio links only if supply radio communications fail completely, and then only for short, particularly urgent messages.

Exercise keys: Army forward to divisions—exercise Army Staff Machine Key for top-secret command matters, otherwise exercise Army Machine Key. Army–Navy–Luftwaffe lateral traffic—exercise Wehrmacht Staff Machine Key for top-secret command matters, otherwise exercise Wehrmacht Machine Key. Senior Quartermaster traffic—exercise Senior Quartermaster Machine Key.
