Diary Entry

3 June 1943 Monthly intelligence report for May civilian attitudes

Civilian attitudes and conduct in occupied territory: the military events in Tunisia have generally increased hopes of an eventual Anglo-American victory. The evacuation of Cherbourg has caused considerable resentment in the corps area. Its necessity is not understood, and hardships were naturally unavoidable in carrying it out. The reduction of food rations on the Channel Islands as a countermeasure against attacks by British aircraft on German supply ships has had the same effect.
