3 February 1944 Part 2 Storm halts shipping to the Channel Islands

I. Report to Commander in Chief West.

1. Enemy situation. On 2 February, in the afternoon, about 80 aircraft flew in over the Orne estuary. After circling in the Caen–Lisieux–Bernay area, they departed northwards. On 3 February, about 14:45, several waves of enemy bombers over northern Cotentin. A number of bombs dropped in open country around Cherbourg. No damage.

2. Shipping between the Channel Islands and the mainland suspended owing to stormy weather.

3. Houat and Hoëdic islands, in the 275th Infantry Division sector, inspected; no special findings.

II. Further reports.

XXV Army Corps. Moved: 12th Battery, Artillery Regiment 275, to Théhillac, 8 km southwest of Redon; 3rd and 4th Companies, Grenadier Regiment 852, 343rd Infantry Division, to Brest; Headquarters, II Battalion, Artillery Regiment 353, to Ploulec’h; 4th Battery to Pleumeur; 5th Battery to Servel; 6th Battery to Ploumilliau.

LXXXIV Army Corps. I Battalion, Grenadier Regiment 736, relieved III Battalion, Grenadier Regiment 736, in coastal defence. III Battalion is now divisional reserve. Quarters: Headquarters, I Battalion, Grenadier Regiment 736, at Colleville, 12 km northeast of Caen; Headquarters, III Battalion, Grenadier Regiment 736, at Le Mesnil, 7 km north of Caen.

LXXIV Army Corps and LVIII Reserve Panzer Corps: nothing special to report.
