Diary Entry
29–30 June 1940
Reconnaissance aircraft landed on Guernsey without encountering resistance and returned with information about the situation ashore. Further flights were ordered over Jersey and Alderney. The command expected the British authorities to abandon the islands and accelerated preparations to carry troops, naval personnel, communications parties and anti-aircraft units from the French coast.
The provisional minimum landing force was set at one infantry battalion for Alderney, two for Guernsey and three for Jersey, with supporting weapons but without heavy infantry guns. Two engineer companies and the Gotha Naval Assault Detachment were also requested. Naval command of the transport was to be divided between an Alderney–Guernsey group and a Jersey group.
