Diary Entry
28 October 1942 Heightened readiness, 28–29 October
Editorial note: Additional dated readiness instructions applying to the islands; an alert is not evidence that an attack occurred.
Moderate winds and seas, rain and poor visibility—often under one kilometre in Normandy—favoured surprise raids. Army ordered heightened readiness from 21:00 throughout the coast and islands, without premature fuel use. Divisions cancelled as visibility improved, 320 at 08:30, 716 at 08:40 and 319 at 09:00. Corps notified army at 09:01.
