27 July 1942 Part 4

27 July 1942 Channel Islands command and garrison organisation

Date note: Date taken from the order-of-battle set cover, scan 0438. Individual sheets without a separate date are retained as part of that set; this is not an assertion that every subordinate unit changed on that day.

Editorial note: Selected island-related text and translated chart keys; original symbols and numerical tables are retained in the images. Uncertain small annotations are not silently expanded.

The dated Seventh Army order-of-battle set places the 319th Infantry Division under LXXXIV Army Corps. Its island formation is shown with Infantry Regiments 582, 583 and 584 and Artillery Regiment 319. The full chart preserves its relationship to the mainland formations.

The island sheet distinguishes static defences from troops under command. Sections cover Guernsey, Sark, Alderney and Jersey, tanks, Army coastal artillery, naval artillery and landing-defence guns. Naval battery labels include Strassburg and Mirus on Guernsey, Elsass on Alderney and Lothringen on Jersey. These are organisational records, not reports of firing.

English key: Bodenständig, static or permanently assigned; Unterstellt, under command; Infanterie, infantry; Artillerie, artillery; Heeres-Küsten-Artillerie, Army coastal artillery; Marine-Artillerie, naval artillery; Nachrichten, signals; Pioniere, engineers; Nachschub, supply; Sanitätsdienste, medical services.
