Diary Entry

25 February 1943 Transfer of Les Casquets garrison to the Navy Annex 61

Corps top-secret signal Ia 431 to the 319th Infantry Division. References: Seventh Army Ia 814 and Admiral Channel Coast, both 24 February.

1. Naval High Command reports orders to garrison Les Casquets with a newly arriving naval platoon of five NCOs and thirty-five men. Destination and subordination orders follow.

2. The division arranges relief and responsible takeover of the island garrison directly with the Commanding Admiral Channel Coast. Relief depends on the new platoon's training standard. Before takeover it must be trained either with the existing Army garrison temporarily retained or with training assistance provided. The division is responsible for handover to the Navy and determines timing in light of its other duties. 3. After the platoon arrives, report the timing and arrangements. 4. The Harbour Commandant Saint-Malo forms the platoon and dispatches it rapidly to the Harbour Commandant Alderney. 5. An officer will be detailed separately as strongpoint commander. Copy to Naval Commander Normandy.
