24 September 1942 Cadre transfers threaten further shortages in the island division
Date note: Conference of 24 September recorded in the file note of 28 September. The reported shortages and replacement expectations are contemporary assessments.
2. Transfer of cadres from the 319th and 320th Infantry Divisions to form the 346th Infantry Division is undesirable for both contributing divisions, already about 400 men short each. Each will thereby reach a shortfall of about 800–1,000. Under a Führer order, the 319th had hitherto been exempt from contributions. The Commanding General wishes to release cadres only after replacements arrive. This is impossible because the cadres must assemble on 5 October by Army Group order. Replacements are therefore wanted as early as possible.
Decision: the corps is instructed to submit its replacement request promptly. Recruits may be expected from 1 October.
