Diary Entry

23 May 1944 Request for additional anti aircraft guns on Jersey

Editorial note: The request was supported by army headquarters but refused by the air district command. No transfer of the ten guns is recorded.

LXXXIV Army Corps headquarters requests that, out of the fifteen 2 cm Flak 30 guns allocated to each island by Field Air District Command Western France, ten of the guns intended for Alderney be deployed on Jersey. Alderney is densely occupied by troops, whereas the partly extensive areas without troops on Jersey make defence against enemy airborne operations particularly urgent.

Army headquarters supports the request and forwards it to Field Air District Command Western France.

The Field Air District Command replies that distribution has already been carried out and the request can therefore no longer be met. It points to compensation through Luftwaffe MG 151 weapons on quadruple mountings which are to be supplied.
