Diary Entry
23 June 1944
Enemy aircraft were suspected of dropping mines outside St Peter Port harbour at approximately 01:15; the diary assessed that the approaches had been heavily mined to prevent use of the harbour by U-boats. From 03:10 the Alderney Artillery Group engaged a radar-located enemy target six to seven nautical miles south of Alderney. Thirty Thunderbolts and Lightnings attacked Alderney's naval and anti-aircraft batteries and harbours, dropping about 25 bombs. One man was lightly wounded, but no weapons were put out of action. During the night of 22/23 June a St Malo-Jersey supply convoy fought enemy motor torpedo boats. Two enemy boats were claimed sunk; the German vessel Hydra and one minesweeping boat were lost.
