23 June 1943 Sark clearance hampered by tidal currents

23 June. Three 24th Flotilla boats in first line, two Second Flotilla boats in second, systematically swept field in seven passes from eastern boundary westward. Spring tidal current four to five knots prevented M 452’s marker buoys holding, gradually carrying them north of field, complicating work. No further mines cut. Gear recovered at 330 at 0300, W force two, sea state one, moderate visibility; anchored off St Peter Port 0500, weighed and entered 1100.

23 June evening. Same six boats sailed St Peter Port 2215, 28-metre sweep at 330 at 2315, double line abreast 200 metres, M 452 buoy boat. W force 1–2, sea state one, moderate visibility.
