23 December 1941 Urgent teletype proposing mainland employment of elements of 319th Division
[Scan 1071.jpg] Army teletype. Received 23 December 1941, 20:15; no. 11168; GHMEX 01509. Most urgent. Sent 23 December, 19:00. To Army High Command, Operations Branch. Secret command matter. Subject: Reorganisation in Commander-in-Chief West’s area.
To save forces and form new reserves, Commander-in-Chief West plans to employ the following 319th Infantry Division elements for security in their own coastal supply strip around Granville: one infantry battalion from Jersey; one anti-tank company from Jersey; IV Battalion/Artillery Regiment 319, formed by 712th Infantry Division, which is only now being brought up and is still on the mainland. In addition, 319th Infantry Division will take over Alderney after the static commandant’s office, approved in the meantime, has familiarised itself with its duties. Since further plans depend upon this, Commander-in-Chief West requests that approval be obtained for the proposed employment of these 319th Division elements. Commander-in-Chief West/Army Group Command D, Ia no. 1801/41 secret command matter.
