Diary Entry
22 January 1942 St Malo convoy diary
Because of poor communications there was no overview of the execution of the previous day's tasks. The ordered tasks were presumed to have been carried out. The escort requirement was not large, but only six operational boats were available; V 212 had to enter dock because of leaks in the stern tube, V 208 had extinguished its fires because of condenser leaks, and M 4010 was under boiler repair.
According to a teletype from Commander of Security West, I must also take over the Cherbourg convoy office. Kapitänleutnant Budde is to arrive in St Malo on 23 January for the handover. V 205/V 206 will thereby return to the 2nd Patrol Flotilla and convoy office; initially, however, the 3rd Security Division retains control of both boats.
Situation 22 January 1942: M 4005/M 4003 from St Malo to Granville, thence with Favorit and Holland to Jersey; from Jersey with Holland to Guernsey. M 4007/M 4000 from Guernsey with tug and barges to Jersey. V 213 replenishing stores; V 212 dock; V 208 undergoing boiler cleaning and condenser repair; M 4010 under boiler repair at St Malo.
Intention for 23 January 1942: M 4008 as tug for Harbour Commandant St Malo with barges to Jersey, escorted by V 213 and M 4010, then onward to Guernsey. M 4007/M 4000 from Jersey to Guernsey with Favorit and Mazagan. M 4005/M 4003 from Guernsey with Kurland and Nestor to St Malo; release Kurland there and continue with Nestor to Granville.
