21 October 1943 Antenna instruction ordered for the island division

18 and 19 November 1943: Fortress Signals Staff 1 is to instruct the 319th Infantry Division.

Instruction is to cover experience with improvised antennas in fortifications and fortress antennas, using the draft D 1790/5 and the cited experience report. Suitable antenna installations for the different equipment types, including fortress antennas where possible, are to be demonstrated in practice as well as explained in theory.

Divisions are to detail unit signals officers and wireless company commanders, agree the venues with the fortress signals staffs, and arrange accommodation and rations. Proper installation of radios and antennas is thereafter to be monitored continuously and systematically under the fortress signals staffs, with specialist personnel supplied by the troops.

Editorial note: The preceding page transmits Commander West’s order of 12 October; 18–19 November are scheduled instruction dates, not evidence that the course took place.
