Diary Entry

21 January 1943 Part 4 Proposed withdrawal of an island battalion

As Army High Command has not authorised the transfer of a battalion from the islands, the Commander-in-Chief agrees to the following solution: Machine Gun Battalion 17 of 709th Infantry Division will be employed in the sector of 165th Division. Its previous sector on the signals peninsula will be taken over by a reserve battalion of 716th Infantry Division.

Army Group rejects handing a subsector to the neighbouring army and has applied to Army High Command to bring one battalion from the Channel Islands into the sector of 165th Division. LXXXIV Army Corps is informed and again reminded to prepare to make do with its own resources.

Editorial note: The source records both the lack of authorisation and the application through Army Group. They have not been silently reconciled. Nachrichtenhalbinsel is rendered literally as signals peninsula.
