20 June 1943 Removal of barracks inside resistance nests and strongpoints Annex 176
To the 716th, 709th and 319th Divisions and Artillery Commander 118. Once permanent works or reinforced field works are completed, temporary bunkers, corrugated-iron buildings, wooden huts, straw shelters and houses within resistance nests and strongpoints, including those occupied by artillery, must generally be dismantled.
One daytime shelter may remain for meals and instruction if it is sited so that neither the field of fire nor defence in any direction is impaired; it is well camouflaged against air observation; and as little combustible material as possible is used. Remove furnishings that produce particularly heavy smoke when burning, including blankets, mattresses and straw sacks. Because fixed buildings particularly restrict fields of fire, retain them as daytime shelters only where terrain permits and the field-of-fire condition is satisfied. In every case the divisional commander decides. Signed von Zangen.
