20 August 1944 US Navy retrospective report of recovered PT 509 wreckage
The undated squadron historical excerpt records recovery on 20 August of a shrapnel and gunfire riddled portion of PT 509 afloat in the Channel. Its intelligence assessment claimed moderate to heavy damage to four German M class minesweepers from PT 509’s gunfire. This is a later assessment, distinct from the contemporary report’s uncertainty over the boat and enemy losses. [H page 27]
