05:00. During the passage from Guernsey to Jersey, the tug Poincaré ran on to the Grunes aux Dardes, south of Aubin Bay, Jersey, and sank. The crew was rescued. The barge being towed by Poincaré was brought into St Helier by harbour-defence boats of Harbour Defence Group Jersey.
So far as the investigation could establish, the loss of the tug resulted from faulty navigation by its master, who was making the Guernsey–Jersey night passage for the first time. It could not be established locally whether the patrol boats assigned to the escort knew this fact.
