Normandy radar reporting station — 1944-05-19
Night 19/20 May. Wind NNE–NE3, visibility 8–12 nautical miles, sea 1–2. Particularly good radar weather with good long-range detections. FuMO214 Arromanches received enemy transmissions 0010–0230 in 30°–40°. Own E-boats proceeding south of Guernsey westwards not detected. Three own patrol boats Guernsey–positions Rebhuhn, Ente, Wachtel–Guernsey not detected before contact with enemy fast boats. Upon departing Guernsey again, tracked well only by Air Force large search station Goldfisch. Air Force Mammut Jobourg tracked enemy convoy, probably Range, 0930–1321 from lower-left corner BF3149 via 3148, 3147, 2369, 2368, 2392 to left-edge centre 2391. FuMO51 Cap de la Hague II tracked same convoy 0957–1007 in centre BF3148.
Following Air Force reporting post 8/3 report of enemy fighter-bomber activity and direction against own artillery lighters Cherbourg–St Vaast, an air-danger advance-warning locating signal transmitted 0104, referring to interception contact. Interception network could not detect reported targets. During fighter-bomber attack on own artillery lighters, post 8/3 reported fighter-bombers continuously receiving course directions, but own interception service detected nothing. Therefore enemy use of radar sets on fast boats at short wavelengths must be suspected. Increased defensive readiness 2200–0700. Four locating signals for navigational assistance.
