19 July 1941 Request for map deadline extension and clarification of permanent defence plans

[Scan 1166.jpg] Operations Branch IIa, 19 July 1941. Note. 1) Commander-in-Chief West requests by telephone an extension until 24 July for submitting the map concerning the situation and plans for the Channel Islands. 2) As a basis for planning fortress-style construction, he also requests notification of intentions for the later definitive construction of the islands, so these requirements can already be taken into account: defence facing which directions?

Captain Giese made a telephone inquiry to Armed Forces High Command, Captain Borne. Reply to follow. Handwritten, 22 July: communication from Captain Borne, Army General Staff, Armed Forces High Command. On item 1, submission by Army High Command on 26 July is sufficient. On item 2, a satisfactory answer cannot currently be expected. If Commander-in-Chief West approaches Armed Forces High Command with such a request, appropriate papers are to be submitted for presentation to the Führer. Inform the Inspector of National Fortifications and Operations Branch Group V. [Some handwriting uncertain.]
