Diary Entry

18 September 1942 Part 5a Reconnaissance and balloons north of Alderney

Related existing record: 18 September 1942 Part 5 — 18 September 1942 Air reconnaissance and possible convoy north of Alderney. This separate source account concerns material already represented in that record; it does not by itself establish an additional incident.

Enemy reconnaissance activity continued over the Channel Islands. On 18 September at 11.43 hours, fifteen balloons were observed at a considerable distance north of Alderney, moving from east to west; presumably a British convoy.

Editorial note: The convoy identification is the German report’s inference from the balloons observed.
