Diary Entry

18 June 1944 Part 5 Transfer of the islands to LXXIV Army Corps

The change in the command organisation in the Cotentin peninsula, and Army Headquarters’ order concerning responsibility for conducting the fighting in the northern part of the peninsula, are reported to Army Group B Headquarters.

If the fortress is encircled, it is proposed to appoint Lieutenant General von Schlieben as fortress commandant. At the same time, it is intended to place the Channel Islands (319th Infantry Division) under LXXIV Army Corps, to relieve LXXXIV Army Corps and because communications with Saint-Malo are better.

Army Group approves Lieutenant General von Schlieben’s responsibility for command and the conduct of the fighting both inside and outside the fortress, and agrees to the subordination of the Channel Islands to LXXIV Army Corps.
