Diary Entry
18 July 1944 Part 1 Jersey coastal artillery drives off a surveillance vessel
In the sea area of the Channel Islands, Jersey’s coastal artillery forced an enemy surveillance vessel to turn away. Enemy warships approached the north coast of Brittany, particularly around Paimpol, during the morning. During the afternoon, until 16:30, naval reconnaissance in the Avranches area was continued by groups of three enemy aircraft.
From the remainder of the Army area, only incoming flights by individual enemy aircraft into the Alençon–Le Mans–Chartres–Châteaudun–Laval areas are reported, with attacks on road traffic and numerous bomb drops.
