Diary Entry

18 December 1941 Review of island garrisons and heavy weapons

Editorial note: This is a request for a review, not an order recording an actual withdrawal. The date and issuing headquarters appear on PDF page 642.

Commander in Chief West has asked the Operations Branch of Army High Command to review the forces committed to the Channel Islands, including the numerous heavy and static weapons deployed there. In the opinion of Commander in Chief West, at least for the time being, some of these forces and weapons would be more valuable in strengthening the defence of the mainland coast than in being rigidly tied to the Channel Islands.
