A question from Naval High Command West as to whether a convoy rhythm could be identified in the Cherbourg and St Malo traffic was answered, after examination of the sighting reports for the preceding period, by FT 2023/16 to Naval High Command:
1. No regular convoy rhythm between England and Cherbourg could be identified. Traffic was daily, apart from some disruption by the weather. Ships normally entered Cherbourg in the afternoon and sailed in the morning. 2. Of 403 supply vessels observed during October, 275 travelled in convoy and 128 independently. 3. The St Malo convoys could not yet be evaluated conclusively because the evidence was insufficient.
